Former Minister of Education, Oby Ezekwesili has lamented the spate of social media attacks by politicians and their supporters since the conclusion of presidential election in Nigeria.
The Bring Back Our Girls convener expressed her disappointment with president Muhammadu Buhari for refusing to tame the tide and gradually allowing it to degenerate into an unmanageable situation.
The last one week has wittnessed a barrage of attacks and counter-attacks by supporters of the All Progressive Congress and that of the Labour Party.
The situation was further fuelled with the statement made by the literary giant, Professor Wole Soyinka during his reaction to the Channels TV interview granted by the vice presidential candidate of the Labour Party, Datti Baba-Ahmed.
Soyinka condemned Baba-Ahmed’s outburst and described it as threatening and menacing. He said no one has ever threatened the judiciary like Datti did. Soyinka’s reaction attracted the anger of Labour Party supporters fondly regarded as Obidients on social media.
Few days later, another literary icon, Chimanmada Adichie released a bullet on Atlantic, a US based Newspaper Publication.
The award winning writer questioned the rationale behind the congratulatory message of American government to Bola Tinubu. She said the election that produced Bola Tinubu was grossly manipulated and did not conform with standard practices.
As expected, the article created a ripple on social media as Tinubu’s spokesmen and supporters lampooned Adichie and called her different names for her write up.
Reacting to the whole controversies, Oby Ezekwesili said: I wonder what the endgame of Buhari’s government, Tinubu and APC really is, considering how determined they are to push the country to precipice.”
Ezekwesili made this reaction on her verified twitter handle on Monday morning when She wrote: “I wonder what the endgame of @NigeriaGov of @MBuhari, their ruling party @OfficialAPCNg , @officialABAT & their supporters really is, considering how determined to push the country to the precipice they all appear to be. Just look at the state of the Nigerian polity! So sad”
