The leading Civil Rights Advocacy Group- HUMAN RIGHTS WRITERS ASSOCIATION OF NIGERIA (HURIWA) has condemned the Nigeria Police Force, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and all other security agencies for allowing armed hoodlums suspected to be working for incumbent governors in Rivers and Lagos State particularly, to harass, intimidate, physical attack, scare away supporters of other political parties other than the one of the incumbent governors and perpetrate other illegalities such as snatching and destruction of ballots boxes and sundry manslaughter and outright murders.
HURIWA has also called for the dismissal of the Lagos and Rivers States police commissioners for alleged collusion and conspiratorial partnerships with their state governments to look the other way and allow the reign of armed political thugs working for Lagos State Government and that of Rivers State government just as the Rights group described the Independent National Electoral Commission under Mahmood Yakubu as being IRREDEEMABLY MANIPULATED AND COMPROMISED by politicians controlling the governments of Rivers, Lagos, Anambra and several other states whereby these governors recruited and deployed thugs to operate freely.
HURIWA has therefore advocated the immediate disbandment of the management of the Independent National Electoral Commission, the appointment of fresh commissioners to be selected by a foreign led management consultants and also the Rights group has called for the prosecution of the management staff of the national office of INEC including the resident electoral commissioners of INEC in Lagos, Imo, Rivers, Ebonyi and Anambra States for their irredeemable compromises during the last two elections of February 25th and March 18th. HURIWA said these criminal collusion and compromises amounted to crimes against humanity.
Relatedly, the prominent Civil Rights Advocacy Group- HUMAN RIGHTS WRITERS ASSOCIATION OF NIGERIA (HURIWA) has described the Force Police spokesman, Adejobi Olumuyiwa, as Igbo phobic and a joke of a law enforcement officer for him to have described the criminal threat to unleash violence made by MC Oluomo against Igbos as a joke.
Musiliu Akinsanya also known as M.C Oluomo, chairman of the Lagos parks and garages had in a trending video made a direct threat against Igbo voters in Lagos.
HURIWA recalled that a video had surfaced online of MC Oluomo threatening Igbos in Lagos State against voting for another political party.
MC Oluomo said Igbos who would not vote for the All Progressives Congress, APC, should sit at home.
But amidst the groundswell of calls on the Police to arrest MC Oluomo for incitement of violence in the Gubernatorial election which rightly witnessed sporadic violence and attacks targeting Igbo voters as threatened by MC Oluomo who is a loyalist of the Lagos State Government and a staunch member of the All Progressives Congress, the Force Police Public Relations Officer rather sarcastically dismissed the apprehensions raised by millions of Nigerians about the threat made within the last 48 hours and instead said nobody has the right to stop the people of Lagos from voting for the candidate of their choice.
The truth is that hundreds of thousands of voters were harassed by armed thugs in parts of Lagos State 48 hours after MC Oluomo made the threat and these thugs successfully suppressed many voters from voting in the Saturday’s governorship election. But here we have someone paid by tax payers money helping alleged criminal threatening to unleash violence on voters of other parties other than APC, as a joke. This statement coming from this FPPRO is a monumental scandal for which he needs to apologise or be dismissed from that seat.
HURIWA recalled that the reaction of the police force spokesman came when he featured on Channels Television, Olumuyiwa assured that the Lagos State Police Command has commenced an investigation into MC Oluomo’s inciting comments.
HURIWA recalled too that the Force Police Public Relations Officer had also said: “I saw a video of MC Oluomo with one mama Chidinma – an Igbo woman debunking that threat, that it’s not true, it’s just a joke he was making with a particular woman. So, let us take it as a joke, like he said. But, nobody has the right and audacity to tell Nigerians not to come out and vote; it’s not allowed and not proper. MC Oluomo has come out to debunk it, so let’s leave it that it’s not true. The Commissioner of Police in Lagos had debunked it, and MC Oluomo himself has done the same, so Lagosians should go out and vote for the candidate of their choice.”
HURIWA strongly condemns the lackadaisical attitudes of this policeman known as Olumuyiwa who ought to work as a patriotic and professional police officer but he has rather displayed his incurable IGBO PHOBIC tendencies by hastily concluding that such a threat from MC Oluomo was a joke and so we ask him why is he saying the matter is being investigated since he has already appeared on a national television to categorically say that the threat which remains very dangerously potent and indeed has been played put as the guber election proceeds on Saturday in Lagos is a Joke?
HURIWA condemns the Force PRO for manifesting an attitude of someone who is not thoroughly trained as a professional police officer because if he is a professional, he wouldn’t reach a conclusion in a matter he had confirmed is being investigated for possible breach of the electoral Act and besides, the threat by MC OLUOMO contravened several sections of the Electoral Act as amended and has already happened in many parts of Lagos State as reports from observers of that election filter in to the office of the HUMAN RIGHTS WRITERS ASSOCIATION OF NIGERIA (HURIWA).
The Rights group said it is certain that if it was an Igbo Speaking native that made such an open threat against Yoruba voters, this Igbo phobic force police public relations officer wouldn’t have dismissed a serious matter as a joke thus choosing the lazy and berated defense tactics adopted by MC OLUOMO when his threat to unleash violence against voters of other parties aside All Progressives Congress and then mention an Igbo name which connotes a covert threat against Igbo voters in Lagos. If I may ask this FPPRO, is he not on this planet earth when MC Oluomo was captured on video during the February 25th Presidential and Legislative elections stopping persons who are Igbo voters from accessing the polling unit in front of his house somewhere in Lagos? Was that one also a joke?
HURIWA’s Onwubiko said, “MC Oluomo’s action contravenes the Electoral Act 2022, especially Section 125 which provides thus: Any person who at an election acts or incites others to act in a disorderly manner commits an offence and is liable on conviction to a maximum fine of N500,000 or imprisonment for a term of 12 months or both.
“Also, MC OLUOMO’S action violates Section 128 (a) which states: A person who— (a) directly or indirectly, by his or herself or by another person on his or her behalf, makes use of or threatens to make use of any force, violence or restrain commits an offence and is liable on conviction to a fine of N1,000,000 or imprisonment for a term of three years.
