Fela Durotoye Faces Backlash Over Tinubu’s Appointment

217

Former presidential candidate and motivational speaker, Fela Durotoye has come under heavy criticism following his appointment into the presidential media advisory team.

Ajuri Ngelale, Tinubu’s media adviser, in a statement on Monday, said that  Durotoye and the other appointees will serve in President Bola Tinubu’s office under the media and publicity directorate.

Durotoye’s appointment has stirred reactions within the political landscape. While many expressed disappointment towards the leadership expert who contested for the presidency under the platform of the Alliance for New Nigeria condemning the ills of the All Progressive Congress (APC), others urged him to reject the appointment.

Dokun Ojomo, wrote on X: ”President Bola Tinubu has appointed Mr. Fela Durotoye as Senior Special Assistant to the President. I will advise Mr. Durotoye to reject this offer. He will destroy whatever social capital that he has left.”

@FrankZephyr1 wrote: “As a 20+ young Executive Trainee in Zenith, na so Fela Durotoye come give us bobo juice about aspire to perspire and how he rejected a corrupt over inflated contract. Today he dey accept appointment from drug-dealing certificate-forger. Nigeria is not going anyway sha.”

Anthony Abakporo wrote:Your motivational speaker and coach Fela Durotoye has accepted appointment from a President that forged his certificate. You see why I usually encourage you to know God for yourself and study voraciously?”

Iβrahim Showa wrote: Fela Durotoye described the APC-PDP as two sides of a bad coin in 2018/19. Fast forward to 2023; one of those sides is good enough for him to accept an appointment from, despite that side inflicting more pain, corruption, terrorism, and poverty, and these legacies of pain continued and got worse under his latest principal. This singular action from him proves my 2019 tweet that he contested in 2019 to signify his availability for appointments under any of these corrupt politicians.”

Moses O. Olalowo wrote: “Nothing prepared me for this Fela Durotoye news. I’ve been looking forward to him working with Peter Obi again in a similar capacity like this current appointment but I’m willing to wait and see if he will go ahead with it or it’s still a social media fuss.”

Film Maker wrote: “Has Fela Durotoye accepted the appointment yet? If he did, he goofed greatly.”

More reactions below;

In the statement announcing Durotoye’s appointment, President Tinubu tasked him and other appointees to ”maintain the highest standards of decorum and decency as they engage with the public.”
