Edo State Governor, Godwin Obaseki, has disclosed why he named the Edo Arena, after Benin-born musician, Divine Ikubor, known by his stage name, Rema.

The “Calm Down” crooner, Rema,  along with Governor Obaseki, in Benin, laid a block on the Edo Arena site, at a groundbreaking ceremony, on Wednesday.

Rema joined Obaseki for the groundbreaking ceremony, as part of the event leading to his homecoming concert at the Ogbe Stadium.

Obaseki said Rema remains an ambassador of Benin and Edo State. He added that the Edo Arena, which he renamed, Rema Dome, would attract visitors and international stars to Benin. He stated that the Rema Dome would boost the tourism potential of the state.

On his X handle, on Wednesday, the Governor wrote, “It was a pleasure to have our global music icon @heisrema, join me in performing the groundbreaking ceremony for the 6,000-capacity Edo Arena. The arena, which will be called ‘Rema’s Dome,’ is located at the former Garrick Memorial School Ground on Ekenhuan Road in Benin City.”

He explained the Rema Dome would allow visitors to “experience our rich culture and what we have to offer, which will create employment opportunities for our youths.

Edo State Governor reaffirmed the commitment of his administration to attracting investment into the state by boosting tourism.
