The 2025 Gryn Initiative, held at the Afe Babalola Hall, University of Lagos, brought together key voices from across sectors to deliberate on the impact of technological advancement and social media on Nigeria’s future. The summit, themed “Exploring the Impact of Advancement in Tech and Social Media,” served as a timely intervention in a world where artificial intelligence (AI) and digital tools are rapidly redefining education, healthcare, finance, communication, and national competitiveness.
In a firm and passionate closing statement, Mr. Chibuzor Cyricus Onyilimba, Co-Founder of Gryn Index Initiative, issued a warning to leaders and stakeholders across the public and private sectors. He emphasized that Nigeria cannot afford to lag behind in the digital revolution, stating:
“The digital age is not waiting for us. Either we rise to the challenge, or we become a footnote in the global story of innovation.”
According to Onyilimba, the integration of AI and social platforms has already begun to reshape critical national structures. He stressed that Nigeria must urgently invest in digital literacy, infrastructure, and regulatory frameworks if it is to remain relevant in an increasingly technology-driven global economy. He noted that the nation’s youth are eager and capable, but without deliberate support, the potential for growth could be undermined by digital inequality, ethical challenges, and misgovernance.
The lead paper was presented by Mr. Festus Uwaboi, a digital strategist and certified AI prompt engineer with a dual Master’s degree in Digital Marketing & Business Transformation from Europe. His presentation reinforced the need for strategic readiness in adapting to AI and digital platforms—not as future tools, but as present-day forces already influencing policy, education, commerce, and innovation.
As the summit concluded, it was evident that the conversation around AI in Nigeria is no longer theoretical. It is now a matter of national urgency. Gryn Initiative’s leadership called for policies that foster responsible innovation, skills development, and cross-sector collaboration to ensure Nigeria is not left behind in the global race for digital relevance.
