A diesel tanker overturned on the Liverpool Bridge in Apapa, Lagos, sparking a chaotic scene as residents and passersby rushed to scoop the spilled fuel despite the risks. The Lagos State Traffic Management Agency (LASTMA) diverted traffic to prevent further danger and emergency responders, including the Lagos State Fire Service, Nigeria Police Force, and Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), were quickly deployed to the scene .
The incident occurred early Monday morning, with videos circulating online showing individuals using jerrycans and buckets to collect the diesel. Authorities warned of the grave risks, including fire outbreaks and potential loss of lives, as emergency teams worked to secure the area.
The Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) cautioned residents against scooping fuel, emphasizing the danger of explosions or fires. The road was later reopened after the spilled content was neutralized by fire service personnel .
