Jibrin Samuel Okutepa, A lawyer and Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN) has kicked against President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s planned military intervention in Niger.

Okutepa disclosed his position in a series of tweets on his verified Twitter handle on Saturday.

His reaction is coming on the heels of Tinubu’s letter to the Senate on Friday seeking military intervention in Niger.
According to him, the National Assembly should refrain from honouring Tinubu’s request.

He said Nigeria’s military strength should be channelled towards fighting in-country insecurity challenges rather than fighting the Niger coup.

He tweeted, “I just hope the National Assembly will not approve the request to send our military to the Niger Republic to fight a senseless war of restoring democratic government in that country.
“Nigerians need our security agencies, including armed forces to restore peace and security in Nigeria.”

Meanwhile, a popular Nigerian politician, Doyin Okupe, and activist, Reno Omokri, had drummed support for the government.

Kemi Filani gathered that the Niger junta had cut diplomatic ties with Nigeria after failing to honour a request for a talk by an ECOWAS envoy dispatched by President Tinubu.

On July 26 military junta toppled Niger’s democratically elected President, Mohamed Bazoum.
