8

Family of Chief Onyemazu Ngini of Isuanaocha community in Awka North Local Government Area of Anambra state has raised an alarm over what it described as unlawful arrest and detention of their father by the Agunechemba security outfit in Anambra state.

The family said their father, the Youth Leader of the community, who was last seen on Thursday after he was lured through a phone call had been in detention since then with no substantial reason for his arrest.

Speaking to newsmen, son to the detainee, Chisom expressed worry over the continued detention of the father, without concrete chargge of the offence of their father

lagoscityreporters.com gathered that trouble for the victim started after he honoured an invitation by the leader of the security, outfit, Ken Emeakayi, who invited him on the 13th of March, 2025, for a brief chat on matters bordering on the security situation in Isuaniocha community, to which he obliged.

We also understand that Chief Ngini requested to know why he was being invited by the boss of the security outfit, Emeakayi.

Part of the narrative as received by lagoscityreporters.com reads: “When Chief Onyemazu Ngini received a call from phone number 08034182108 on the evening of 13/3/2025 he requested to know the caller. The caller introduced himself as Ken Emeakayi of Agunechemba office Awka. Chief Onyemazu Ngini then requested to know why he is being called by Ken Emeakayi and was told by Emeakayi that he wanted him to come to Agunechemba office for them to discuss on how to flush out the unknown gunmen from Isuaniocha.”

The youth chairman, we also gathered accepted the invitation because according to the narrative, the President General of the Community had written to the office of Agunechemba, alerting them of the presence of suspected gunmen operating in the community.

“The youth chairman joyfully accepted the invitation having knowledge that the Igwe of Isuaniocha and the president General had earlier written to the office of Agunechemba on 22/1/2025 alerting them about the existence of unknown gunmen being quartered in a building at ifite Isuaniocha junction called the ” Whyte House”.”

The petition alleged that since the youth leader had nothing to hide, he honoured the invite but unknown to him, operatives of the security outfit had sinister motive.

“Chief Onyemazi Ngini unsuspecting any danger went to the Agunechemba office in company of Chief Damian Nnaemene the assistant secretary general of Isuaniocha town union and the Onowu Isuaniocha.” The statement further said.

Part of the statement by Mrs. Ngini, as obtained by lagoscityreporters.com, also revealed: “Unfortunately for Chief Ngini and his co- travellers only Chief Ngini was allowed into the office of Agunechemba to see the man Emeakayi. The other two waited for hours for his emergence only to be notified by an unknown member of Agunechemba security that they should go home that Chief Ngini has been detained by Emeakayi on trumped up charges of a petition written by a woman who is already in court against Chief Onyemazu Ngini over a piece of land situated at Isuaniocha.”

“All efforts by the duo to see Chief Ngini before leaving the Agunechemba office failed. The following day the Igwe of Isuaniocha and the President General sent two separate lawyers to see Chief Ken Emeakayi to find out why he detained the youth chairman but after many frustrating hours they were allowed to see Chief Emeakayi.Unfortunately, Chief Emeakayi changed the topic from land matter to kidnapping case and when the requested to see their clients Chief Emeakayi declined to allow them asses to see the detainee. Other people who called Emeakayi on phone were told a different version of the story. To one he said that Onyemazu Ngini is being detained in connection with stockpile of arms in his possession. To the other he told that Ngini is being detained in connection with murder case.”

In a protest letter, lawyer to the family, Mike Ikegbunam Esq  petitioned the Anambra state police commissioner, Ikioye Orutugu, the Inspector  General  of police, and the state government, the state department of states, demandeding thorough investigation into the activities of the security apparatus and the circumstances surrounding the arrest and detention of Mr. Ngini
