President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved a minor reshuffle of the Federal Executive Council, directing two ministers to exit the cabinet and announcing their replacements.
In a memo dated April 20, 2026, the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Senator George Akume, said Wale Edun, former Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister for the Economy, and Arc. Ahmed Musa Dangiwa, former Minister of Housing and Urban Development, will leave the cabinet.
Taiwo Oyedele has been elevated from Minister of State to Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy. He takes over from Edun with immediate effect. Dr. Muttaqha Rabe Darma has been named minister-designate for Housing and Urban Development. Dangiwa is to hand over to the Minister of State in the ministry.
The memo directed that all handover processes be completed by close of business on Thursday, April 23, 2026.
Explaining the changes, Akume said the reshuffle is aimed at “strengthening cohesion, synergy in governance as well as achieving more impactful delivery on the economy to Nigerians, through the Renewed Hope Agenda.” He added that the President exercised his powers under Sections 147 and 148 of the 1999 Constitution, as amended.
President Tinubu thanked Edun and Dangiwa for their service and wished them well in future endeavours. Akume noted that the President assured cabinet members the “process of reinvigoration shall be continuous.”
