Boko Haram Insurgents Kill Four, Injure Several In Adamawa Attack

Suspected Boko Haram insurgents launched a deadly attack on Wagga Mongoro, a rural community in Madagali Local Government Area of Adamawa State, Nigeria. The assault, which occurred on Tuesday night, September 23, 2025, resulted in the deaths of four residents, with several others injured and properties destroyed.

Details of the Attack

Eyewitnesses described the attack as sudden and brutal, with gunmen storming the village under the cover of darkness, shooting indiscriminately, and setting homes, shops, and a church ablaze. Panic-stricken residents fled into nearby bushes, abandoning their belongings in a desperate bid to stay alive. The attack has left the community in grief, with survivors mourning their loved ones and counting heavy losses.

Destroyed Properties

Properties worth millions of naira were destroyed in the assault, including:
– Homes: Several homes were set ablaze, leaving many residents without shelter.
– Church: The local church was destroyed, a symbol of the community’s spiritual foundation.
– Shops: Several shops were looted and destroyed, affecting the community’s economic livelihood.
– Vehicles: Motorcycles and other vehicles were also destroyed, further crippling the community.

Security Response

Although authorities have yet to issue an official statement, local sources confirmed that security operatives have been deployed to restore calm in the area. However, residents expressed frustration over the lack of adequate security presence, echoing sentiments from previous attacks in the region.¹

Repeated Attacks

This attack marks the second time in two months that Wagga Mongoro has been targeted by Boko Haram insurgents. The community was previously attacked in July, forcing residents to flee to Madagali town and other neighboring communities. The repeated attacks have raised concerns about the effectiveness of the government’s response to the insurgency.

Displacement and Humanitarian Crisis

The attack has exacerbated the humanitarian crisis in Adamawa State, where over 200,000 people have been displaced by Boko Haram insurgency. The victims emphasize the urgent need for increased security to prevent further violence and allow them to return to their homes.
