The Rotary Club of Ojodu witnessed an event of grandeur and significance on Saturday, October 19, 2024, at Ostra Hall, Ikeja, as Rotarian Barrister Ikpunuekhai Osi-Evans (PHF) was installed as the 20th President of the Club. The ceremony was an exceptional display of Rotary’s rich tradition of service, leadership, and community commitment.
The event, which was chaired by Otunba (Engr.) Olagunju Kayode, Chairman and Managing Director of Batok Group of Companies, was graced by an impressive array of dignitaries. Key guests included the Chairman of Ojodu Local Government Council, Hon. Segun Odunmbaku, District Governor (Dr.) Wole Kukoyi, and his spouse, Reverend Olusola Kukoyi. The ceremony also saw the attendance of several distinguished Past District Governors (PDGs), including:
Rotarian PDG Ify Ejezie (2023-2024),
Rotarian PDG Omotunde Lawson (2022-2023),
Rotarian PDG Dr. Adewale Ogunbadejo (2017-2018),
Rotarian DGE Henry Akinyele, the District Governor Elect for 2025-2026.
In addition award recipient, Barrister Uaboi G. Agbebaku, Company Secretary and Legal Director of Nigerian Breweries Plc, attended, representing the business community’s support for Rotary’s impact.
One of the most inspiring moments of the event was the special lecture delivered by Barrister Lucky Onyema Egbede, Managing Director of Super Saver. His speech, focused on “Leadership and Impactful Service,” resonated with all present, highlighting the crucial role of leadership in transformative community service.
The event also marked the induction of the club’s 2024-2025 Board of Directors, alongside the welcoming of ten new members into the Rotary Club of Ojodu. This expansion demonstrates the club’s continued dedication to growing its capacity for community service.
A significant highlight of the day was the unveiling of the club’s special project, which is estimated to cost ₦36 million. This ambitious project is designed to make a lasting, positive impact on the community, continuing Rotary’s mission to provide clean water, enhance education, and support sustainable healthcare initiatives.
Rotarian Barrister Osi-Evans, in his acceptance speech, emphasized the theme of “Service Above Self,” reaffirming his commitment to leading the club through a year focused on impactful projects and further strengthening its presence in the community and district. His leadership promises to continue the rich legacy of the club and advance its goals of community development.
The Rotary Club of Ojodu, established in 2002 as a provisional club and officially chartered on March 8, 2005, with 26 members, has grown exponentially over the years. The club has continually embarked on initiatives aimed at uplifting the lives of the less privileged in Ojodu and surrounding areas. Through various projects, the club has made significant strides in improving healthcare, education, and infrastructure for the community.
With the induction of new members and an ever-expanding footprint, the Rotary Club of Ojodu remains steadfast in its mission to serve humanity and foster sustainable development.
The installation event was not only a testament to Rotary’s enduring legacy but also a clear indication of the future of the Rotary Club of Ojodu under the able leadership of Rotarian Barrister Osi-Evans.
