Troops Foil Suspected IPOB,ESN Attack During Patrol In Enugu State

113

Troops of Sector 1, Operation UDO KA, working with other security agencies, foiled an attack by suspected members of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) and its armed wing, the Eastern Security Network (ESN), during an intelligence-led patrol in Imezi Owa community, Ezeagu LGA, Enugu State, on May 6, 2026.

The patrol was part of follow-up operations tracking suspected terrorist collaborators in the area. While advancing on foot, the troops came under fire from a building. Three personnel sustained injuries but the troops maintained control of the area, repelled the attack, and secured the community. The injured soldiers were evacuated and are receiving treatment at a military medical facility.

During the exchange, improvised explosive devices stored in the building detonated, triggering a fire that destroyed the hideout. A search of the area later uncovered additional IEDs, improvised hand grenades, and a shrine allegedly used for ritual activities. The shrine was dismantled to prevent its continued use for criminal operations.

One suspected collaborator was arrested during the operation. The suspect and recovered items have been handed over to the Nigerian Police at Ezeagu Division for further investigation.

The Joint Task Force South East, Operation UDO KA, assured residents that operations are being conducted professionally with a focus on protecting lives and property. Community members were urged to remain calm, avoid harboring criminal elements, and cooperate with security agencies.

The task force also warned members and sympathizers of the proscribed IPOB/ESN to desist from illegal activities, stating that security forces remain committed to dismantling criminal networks and restoring peace in the region.
