At least 16 people have died in a road accident along the Okene-Osara-Lokoja Road in Kogi State.
The crash occurred early Friday morning when an 18-seater passenger bus reportedly plunged off a bridge in Osara, Adavi Local Government Area.
Kogi State Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps, Lawal Fagge, confirmed the incident to Arise News. He said two passengers survived with severe injuries and are receiving treatment at a nearby hospital.
Fagge attributed the accident to excessive speeding. He added that officers from the FRSC Zariagi Unit responded quickly to rescue victims and evacuate the injured, while the bodies of the deceased have been deposited at a morgue in Lokoja.
The incident has renewed concerns over reckless driving on Nigeria’s highways. Road safety authorities are urging motorists to obey speed limits and traffic regulations to prevent further tragedies.
