The Lagos State Government has debunked a report by Sahara Reporters claiming that Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu was “ordered to resign on health grounds,” describing it as false and misleading.
In a statement issued on Sunday by the Special Adviser on Media and Publicity to the Governor, Gboyega Akosile, the government said no one has asked Governor Sanwo-Olu to resign.
“This report is false in its entirety. It is another fake news, which has become a pattern of Sahara Reporters,” Akosile said.
He confirmed that Governor Sanwo-Olu “remains in good health, of sound mind, and is actively discharging his duties as Governor of Lagos State.”
Akosile disclosed that earlier on Sunday, the Governor received Deputy Governor Dr. Kadri Obafemi Hamzat, who paid him a courtesy visit to formally notify him of his intention to contest for Governor. He described the meeting as cordial and customary.
“While we would ordinarily ignore such baseless reports, the need to reassure Lagosians makes this response necessary,” the statement added.
The government urged the public to disregard the Sahara Reporters story and treat it as fake news, noting the platform’s “track record of publishing disinformation.”
