Gunmen attacked Gako Village in Riyom Local Government Area of Plateau State on Sunday night, killing a clergyman and three members of his family in the latest wave of violence to hit the area.
The victims were identified as Reverend Ayuba Choji, his wife, Chundung Ayuba, and their two children.
Eyewitnesses told reporters that the assailants invaded the village at about 11:00 p.m. and opened fire indiscriminately, killing the pastor and his family in their home.
Confirming the incident, the Chairman of Riyom Local Government Area, Sati Shuwa, said communities in the council have endured persistent attacks and are facing untold hardship.
He called for urgent and increased security deployment to the area to prevent further loss of lives.
Attacks by armed groups have continued to plague several communities in Plateau State, despite repeated calls for stronger security measures.
