Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy delivered a scathing critique of European leaders at the World Economic Forum in Davos, saying they’re not doing enough to support Ukraine against Russia’s invasion. He slammed Europe’s slow and fragmented response, questioning their political will to act against Russia ¹ ² ³.
Zelenskyy highlighted Europe’s failure to deploy frozen Russian assets to support Ukraine’s war effort, saying “Putin managed to stop Europe, unfortunately”. He also criticized European leaders for debating the future while avoiding decisive action in the present .
The Ukrainian leader expressed frustration with European advice on engaging Washington, citing caution against requesting long-range weapons. He emphasized Europe’s need to learn self-defense, saying “Too often, European leaders turn against each other instead of standing together to stop Russia”.
Despite criticism, Zelenskyy acknowledged some European leaders, like European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen. His remarks followed a positive meeting with US President Donald Trump, who expressed optimism about peace talks .
Zelenskyy stressed that talks are ongoing but complex, with draft documents “nearly ready”. He believes the war will eventually end, but compromises are needed from all sides
