The acting chairman of an Akure based radio station Breeze 91.9 FM identified as Mr Tokunbo Opebi,has reportedly beaten a former member of staff of the station Mercy Okafor to stupor for resigning as a staff of the station.

The incident took place on Tuesday at the premises of the station located along Ijoka Road

According to a source in the organization, who pleaded anonymity, Okafor joined the station as a National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) corps member but was offered employment by the station after she completed her service.

“ Mercy Okafor is a bundle of talent,she is Igbo but she has a Bachelor’s degree in Yoruba language.I heard her mum is from Ile-Ife,her versatility and her command of Yoruba Language attracted people to her.They begged her to stay after her service.” he said.

According to the source,when the station’s accountant,One Bisola Agbayewa, put to bed and went on maternity leave, Okafor was asked to act in her absence, a role she played well.

At the expiration of the leave,the accountant did not return but resigned, Okafor simply became both an accountant and an OAP at the station.

According to an eyewitness, Okafor had tendered her resignation letter and had put the management of the station on notice of her intention to exit the organization.

All hell was let loose when she finally submitted the company’s files in her possession.The chairman reportedly said she should have stayed until the station finds a replacement but she told him that she had already given the station a notice which they had not acted upon.

Infuriated by her boldness, Tokunbo allegedly removed his shoe and hit the lady in the head and proceeded to unleash a flurry of blows on her.

“ It took the Intervention of Bimpe Dele-Mogaji and Doyin Johnson to free Okafor from the hands of Tokunbo who was allegedly throwing punches at the young lady,” the source told said
“Tokunbo is responsible for almost all the woes that have happened to that station.If you stay you won’t get paid regularly,if you leave you might get arrested and trumped up allegations.whom has he not arrested and detained,from former engineer to marketer to OAP.” he lamented

All efforts to reach Mr. Tokunbo by Star media proved abortive
