Presidency Reacts To Davido, Burnaboy, Olamide, Others’ Nominations For Grammy Awards

The Presidency has reacted to the nominations of Nigerian singers in the 66th edition of the Grammy Awards.

In a post via his verified X handle on Friday night, presidential aide, Bayo Onanuga congratulated the singers for their achievements.

He wrote: “Congratulations to Nigerian singers Davido, Burna Boy, Asake/Olamide, and Ayra Starr for their nominations in the 66th Grammy Awards which will take place Sunday 4 Feb. 2024 at Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles.”

Recall that Nigerian singers such as Davido, Burna Boy, Olamide and Ayra Starr were nominated for various categories in the prestigious awards.

David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, earned his first Grammy nomination. The ‘OBO’ crooner got three nominations for songs in the 2023 studio album ‘Timeless’.

Burna Boy, who earned four nominations in the 2024 Grammy list, has officially become the first Nigerian artist with the most nominations in the award’s history.

Burna Boy’s ‘Sittin’ On Top of The World’ becomes the first African song to earn a nomination in the Rap category. It was nominated in the Best Melodic Rap Performance category.

Similarly, 21-year-old singer, Oyinkansola Sarah Aderibigbe, popularly known as Ayra Starr, has made history as the youngest Nigerian to bag a Grammy nomination.

Her hit song ‘Rush’ was nominated in the inaugural Best African Music Performance category at the 66th Grammys.

Meanwhile, Olamide has also made history as the first Nigerian rapper to bag a Grammy nomination.

Amapiano’ will contest the award with Davido’s ‘Unavailable’, Ayra Starr’s ‘Rush’ Burna Boy’s ‘City Boys’, and Tyla’s ‘Water.’
