Maine State Police said they are investigating an active shooter situation in Lewiston, Maine, U.S. after multiple people were reported shot at three separate locations.
According to multiple law enforcement officials who briefed on the matter, 22 people were killed, and fifty to 60 people were wounded after a man fired at several locations, including a Lewiston bowling alley. The officials said the numbers were preliminary and could change.
Lewiston Police said in a Facebook post that they were dealing with an active shooter incident at Schemengees Bar and Grille and Sparetime Recreation, a bowling alley.
Maine State Police ordered residents in the state’s second-largest city to shelter in place because of the active shooter situation in multiple locations.
“We are currently dealing with an active shooter incident (Schemengees and Sparetime Recreation). Please stay off the roads to allow emergency responders access to the hospitals,” police said
The department followed up the advisory notice by releasing a photo of a vehicle they are looking for as part of the investigation.
The Androscoggin County Sheriff’s Office also released a photo of the suspect for identification in a post on Facebook and advised individuals who may have more information to email dispatch@androscoggincountymaine.gov or reply on Facebook messenger.
“Law enforcement in Androscoggin County are investigating two active shooter events,” the post read. “We are encouraging all businesses to lock down and or close while we investigate. The suspect is still at large.” it read
