10 Killed As Suspected Herdsmen Attack Benue Communities

The peaceful communities of Opaha, Odogbo and Edikwu in Benue state was taken over by suspected bloodthirsty gunmen who wrecked havoc there and  other parts of the country.

The incident, It was gathered left at least 10 persons dead.

We learnt that the  assailants invaded the communities of Apa Local Government Area of the state on Tuesday night and opened fire on the unarmed residents.

An eyewitness said the daredevil criminal elements suspected to be Fulani herdsmen invaded the community late hours of Wednesday, killing scores of persons while several others were left injured.

He said, so far, ten corpses have been recovered and buried while others are still missing following the unprovoked attack.

The state Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Catherine Anene could not be reached for comment as at press time.

Benue State has the worst record of herdsmen attacks with over 2.5 million Internally Displaced Persons, IDP.

The gunmen have been on rampage across the State, killing unsuspecting citizens with over 200 deaths in one month.

Recall that the state governor, Samuel Ortom had on April 8 while calling fro help from the Federal government, said over 134 people were killed in just five days.

This followed the attack carried out by the assailants in Otukpo, Apa and Guma local government areas, LGAs in the last few weeks.
