Those who applied to renounce their Nigerian citizenship between 2006 and 2021 were 150 with a further 159 renunciations recorded in 2022.

Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Interior, Dr Shuaib Belgore, gave the disclosure on Thursday, alongside his Minister, Rauf Aregbesola, while featuring at the 64th edition of the State House briefings coordinated by the Presidential Media Team, in Abuja.

On the sidelines of the media briefing, he disclosed that the Advisory Committee on Nigerian Citizenship has scheduled a meeting for the 7th of February to consider another 350 foreign applicants seeking Nigerian citizenship.

Dr Belgore stated: “After the meeting, these applications for naturalisation, when successful, will be sent to Mr President-in-Council for approval. Now down to those Nigerians who renounce their citizenship, so far we have registered a total of 309.
