In a shocking incident that highlights the growing wave of violence among young students, a 14-year-old girl from Ikot Ewa Secondary School has been arrested by Nigerian Army officers for over alleged attempt to murder her teacher.
The teenage suspect was caught in possession of a cut-to-size double-barrel gun, which she allegedly planned to use to execute her teacher as revenge for making her cut her dyed hair.
According to reports, the girl was furious after her teacher enforced the school’s grooming policy, which required students to maintain natural hair. Feeling humiliated, she allegedly made the decision to take deadly action, leading to her arrest before she could carry out the attack.
The latest incident has raised concerns, among key players in the education sector, about the safety of people in schools and the increasing rate of student violence and the availability of firearms to minors in Nigeria.
