Two Africans Make FORBES Greatest Living Business Minds List

South African born Patrice Motsepe and Elon Musk have made FORBES top 100 Greatest Living Business Minds. They were the only two Africans on the list.

Motsepe was Africa’s first black billionaire. According to African Rainbow Capital’s (ARC’s) website, “he became an entrepreneur at the age of seven, working in his father’s grocery shop”. After a successful career at Bowman Gilfillan specialising in mining and business law, he founded African Rainbow Minerals in 1997 and turned it into a giant mining company. He has since diversified into a number of other sectors including football, through his ownership of Mamelodi Sundowns Football Club. This month he listed his latest venture ARC, black owned and controlled company focusing on the South African and African financial services industry.

Musk, who holds few fond memories of his time in South Africa relocated to Canada at the age of 17. Now based in the United States, the CEO of SpaceX and Tesla is working to shuttle humans to Mars, bring electric vehicles to the mass market, and revolutionise both artificial intelligence and transportation — with some hits and misses ….
