The total war launched against Oil Bunerers and other smugllers by the Seme Customs has led to the seizure of over 2,000 gaint jerry cans of petroleum products by its enforcement unit,its Conptroller Mr Mohammed A Aliyu has said.
Mr Mohammed Aliyu said that the command also made large seizure of Rice and Vegetable oil in line with the federal government directive on the prohibition of such goods.
He said that his one point agenda in putting the right person at the right place was responsible for the achievements and other seizures like frozen foods,Textiles,second hand clothings and other prohibited items.
“We are monitoring the bunkerers and the petrol stations at the border to know who is abating with these criminal elements to subvert the laws of the country.”He stated.
On the issue of luxury vehicules refusing to use the Scanner,Mr Aliyu said “I have appealed to them to use the scanner which saves time,but they insist on manual 100 per cent check with the delays so we cannot force them since comply with directives”.
Mr Mohammed Aliyu stated that his command would ensure that the directives by the fedetal government on border related matters were compied by all and sundry.
He said that the command is working closely with the Baales and other community leaders at the border to get their coporetion towards effective manning of.the area.
“We have succeeded in bringing sanity on the road by dismantling the multiple check points along the border route and are only left with the approved points to avoid problems on the international route.”He said
Mr Mohammed appealed to Nigerians to assist the customs and other security agencies to fight both smugglers and other crimes at the border zone since its a collective responsibility.
