A pub brawl involving two friends where broken bottles were freely used has landed the duo in court with 45-year-old Paul Elikwu, charged with criminal assault at a Surulere Chief Magistrates’ Court, Lagos. ‎

The court on Tuesday, however, granted him bail in the sum of N100,000 with one surety in like sum.
According to the magistrate, Mr Aro Lambo, the surety must either be a cleric or a community leader with an evidence of tax payment to the government.

The accused, whose address was not provided, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge of assault.

Earlier, the Prosecutor, Sgt. Anthonia Osayande, told the court that the accused committed the offence at Modelle Way, off Akerele Road, Surulere, Lagos, at 7.20 p.m. on Sept. 8.

She alleged that the accused stabbed his friend, Amechi Charles, with a broken bottle while drinking beer at a bar at Modelle Way, Surulere.

The accused stabbed Charles, his friend, with a broken bottle following a disagreement during a drinking spree, causing him grievous harm, she said.

Osayande noted that the offence contravened Section 172 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State 2015.

The accused, if found guilty risks a three-year jail term, according to Section 172.
